About Jian Gang Ngui
I am a fifth-year PhD candidate (A.B.D.) in the Linguistics department.
My primary interests are in syntactic and semantic theory and the syntax-semantics interface. Topics I've worked on include ellipsis in sluicing and fragments in Colloquial Singapore English, optional/partial WH-movement in Colloquial Singapore English, discourse particles in Colloquial Singaporean English and their semantic contribution to the discourse as well as long and short bei-passives in Mandarin.
I am also a part of the Iranian Languages research group (PI: Dr. Simin Karimi; Co-PI: Dr. Heidi Harley; Co-PI: Dr. Mike Hammond), which is currently collecting phonological, phonetic, morphological and syntactic data on Persian, Baluchi, Pashto, Ossetian and Sorani Kurdish. My current focus within the group is on Ossetian and Balochi.
